Chapter 1
Palestine. Mary's birth. Joachim's feast. Mary is blessed by the priests. Joachim's prophecy. Mary lives in the temple. She becomes engaged to Joseph.
Augustus Caesar ruled, and Herod Antipas was the ruler of Jerusalem.
2. The land of Palestine consisted of three regions: Judea, Samaria, and Galilee.
3. Joachim was a teacher of the Jewish law and a wealthy man. He lived in Nazareth, Galilee, and was married to Anna, who was from the tribe of Judah.
4. Two children were born. They were beautiful girls, and they rejoiced. And they named one of the daughters Mary.
5. Joachim held a feast to celebrate his child. However, he did not invite the wealthy, the honorable, or the important people. He invited the poor, those with disabilities, and the blind, and gave each of them clothing, food, and other necessities.
6. He said, "The Lord gave me this wealth. I am a steward by His grace. If I do not give it to the poor children of the Lord, this wealth will be turned into a curse by the Lord."
7. Then, when that child was three years old, her parents took her to Jerusalem. In the temple, she received blessings from the priests.
8. The high priest was a prophet and seer. When he saw the child, he said this:
9 "Behold, this child will be the mother of a revered prophet and teacher of the law. She will dwell in the holy temple of the Lord."
10. And Mary lived in the Lord's temple. Hillel, the head of the Sanhedrin, taught her all the commandments of the Jews. She rejoiced in the law of God.
11. When Mary was a young woman, she became engaged to Joseph, who was the son of Jacob and a carpenter from Nazareth.
12 Joseph was a righteous man and a devout Essene.
